
Moses Babatope

Moses Babatope is a graduate of Money Banking and Finance from Middlesex University, United Kingdom and holds a master’s degree in International Finance from the same institution. He holds an executive certificate from INSEAD Executive Education – Endeavor Leaders at Scale Programme. Moses Babatope has over 18 years’ experience in cinema operations management, film production and film distribution, gained from several locations across the world, including the UK and Nigeria. He is currently the Co-founder, Group Executive Director of Filmhouse Group and Managing Director of FilmOne Entertainment, Nigeria.
As Managing Director of FilmOne, Moses manages a 20-man team who together oversee the exclusive theatrical distribution interests of Hollywood studios such as The Walt Disney Company, Twentieth Century Studios, Warner Brothers, Lionsgate and STX in English-speaking West Africa. In 2019, Moses oversaw the aggregation arrangement that delivered the highest batch of Nollywood films to the world’s largest internet TV platform, NETFLIX. FilmOne is the largest supplier of Nollywood content for NETFLIX.
Filmhouse is the largest cinema chain in West Africa, owners of the only IMAX and MX4D theatres in the region, and FilmOne is West Africa’s fastest-growing studio-styled organization, responsible for distribution and or production of cinema hits such as Aquaman, Angel Has Fallen, Kingsman, Logan, Hitman’s Bodyguard, Tomb Raider, Rampage, Chief Daddy, King of Boys, Merry Men: The Real Yoruba Demons, Merry Men 2, Dead pool 2, Living In Bondage, Bling Lagosians, Sugar Rush, and Nigeria’s highest-grossing films of all time, The Wedding Party, and its sequel The Wedding Party 2. In 2019, FilmOne signed a partnership with the Chinese entertainment giant, Huahua Media, and South Africa’s ace film company, Empire Entertainment, to launch the first West African Film Fund.
Moses is also a co-founder of Talking Drum Entertainment, a UK-based company, specialized in the distribution of Black film and TV contents, whose credits include the successful international theatrical releases of several award-winning Nigerian films, some which include A Trip to Jamaica, King of Boys and The Wedding Party 2, which became the highest-grossing Nollywood film in UK cinemas, making its entry on the UK top 10 box office chart on boxing day, in 2017. He was a consultant to Genesis Deluxe Cinemas (2008 – 2011) and rose to the position of Special Projects Manager at Odeon/AMC Cinemas (the largest cinema chain in the world) UK, (2002 – 2013), pioneering a review in film booking policy to accommodate the programming of Nollywood films across select Odeon Cinemas in the UK.
Moses has served as a juror for the African Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards, Lagos, Nigeria; a Jurist for Screen International Awards, London UK; Jurist for Nollywood Movies Award; Jurist for Short Film Competition, Film Africa UK Film Festival; Guest lecturer at School of Oriental and African Studies, London. In 2018, he was awarded ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ by the Harvard Business School Association of Nigeria. In 2019, he was a Moderator/Panelist at Nigerian International Film Summit – Los Angeles, California United States; Panelist at Emerging Cinema Market Conference, Istanbul, Turkey; Panelist at Choisel Africa Business Forum, Nice, France; Speaker at Nigerian International Film Summit – Lagos, Nigeria; Panelist at Durban Film Market and Film Festival; Panelist at Abidjan Film Summit. The same year, he was selected as an Endeavor Entrepreneur at the 87th International Selection Panel of Endeavor Network; awarded Emerging Market Spotlight Award presented at Cinemacon, an industry event of the National Association of Theatre Owners. In 2020, he has equally served as a Panelist at Adapting to Thrive, Gabfest 2020 – Nigeria and Africa Hub, European Film Market – Berlinale, Germany. He has numerous film production credits to his profile, notable are Executive Producer for ‘Wedding Party 1 & 2’, ‘The Set Up’, ‘Merry Men 1 & 2’, ‘My Wife and I’, ‘TATU’, Production Facilitation for Sundance selected and BFI funded film The Last Tree and Producer for ‘When Love Happens Again.
