Nigeria Official Selection Committee: Rules and Guidelines

1. Committee Formation:
a. The Nigeria Official Selection Committee shall consist of esteemed individuals with significant expertise, experience, and contributions to the Nigerian film industry.
b. Committee members shall be selected based on their industry experience, positions in relevant governmental and societal bodies, industry contributions, careers, and dedication to film.
c. Members shall come from diverse sectors of the industry, including directing, editing, production, acting, cinematography, and more.
d. Each member shall express willingness to serve voluntarily and contribute to the success of the committee.

2. Eligibility Criteria:
a. Committee members should have a minimum of 5 years of active experience in the Nigerian film industry.
b. Some Members  hold prominent positions in relevant industry guilds, governmental bodies, or societal organizations.
c. Demonstrated industry contributions, including awards, recognition, and notable projects, are required.
D. Members must be committed to providing free services to the committee and filmmakers  on training, media rounds, meetings , consultations etc. .
e. Dedication to watching a wide variety of films and a willingness to contribute constructively to the selection process is vital.
f. Based on IFF AWARD SELECTION COMMITTEE GUIDELINES, Committee members cannot have a professional relationship with a film that is considered for official selection.

3. Committee Operations:
a. The committee shall be chaired by a highly qualified individual appointed by consensus.
b. The chairperson shall oversee all committee operations, including scheduling, communication, financial matters if any or as the need arises, and coordination with relevant stakeholders.
c. The committee shall meet annually to screen and evaluate submitted films for Oscar consideration.
d. Members shall engage in in-depth discussions, considering artistic merit, storytelling, technical excellence, and cultural significance during the selection process.
e. All members shall maintain strict confidentiality regarding discussions and film submissions.
f. The committee shall actively engage in promoting and supporting the Nigerian film industry through media rounds, press conferences, workshops, and collaborations when and if called upon.

4. Selection Process:
a. Committee members shall collectively review and evaluate eligible Nigerian films for Oscar submission.
b. Films shall be selected based on their artistic quality, cultural representation, and adherence to Academy Awards criteria.
c. A transparent voting system shall be employed to finalize the official submission from Nigeria for the Oscars.
d. The committee shall adhere to the Academy Awards’ submission deadlines and requirements.
E. Any decision reached at the end of the voting sedition is final and shall not be changed for fear or favour.
These rules and guidelines outline the formation, eligibility criteria, operations, and commitment of the Nigeria Official Selection.  By adhering to these principles, the committee aims to contribute to the development and global recognition of the Nigerian film industry.
