These instructions apply to filmmakers seeking consideration through Nigeria’s official selection process for the International Feature Film Award at the 99th Academy Awards®.
The Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) administers Nigeria’s official national selection process.
Before submitting your film, follow the steps below carefully.
Before beginning your submission, read Rule Sixteen: Special Rules for the International Feature Film Award for the 99th Academy Awards®.
Rule Sixteen sets out the applicable requirements concerning:
the definition of an international film;
eligibility;
qualifying theatrical release;
nontheatrical public exhibition and distribution;
language;
creative control;
submission;
voting;
advertising and publicity restrictions; and
eligibility in other categories.
Do not rely on rules or requirements from previous Academy Awards® cycles.
Before completing the submission form, review everything that must be provided to the NOSC.
The Submission Requirements page explains:
what is required for NOSC submission;
what information and supporting materials must be provided;
what the NOSC requires for Academy readiness; and
what is required only if a film advances.
Prepare all required information concerning the film and its production.
This includes:
original film title;
English-language title, if different;
running time;
country or countries of production;
year of completion;
original language or languages;
percentage of the original dialogue track in a language or languages other than English;
production company or companies;
co-production countries and partners, where applicable;
official synopsis;
director’s statement;
complete cast and crew credits;
key creative personnel; and
authorised submitter information.
All information must be current, complete and accurate.
Prepare the information required for the NOSC to review the film’s eligibility and creative control.
This may include:
creative-control declaration;
citizenship information;
residency information;
refugee or asylum status, where applicable;
business-related affiliations;
production-company affiliations;
co-production relationships;
key creative personnel; and
information concerning principal creative decision-making authority.
International co-productions are not automatically ineligible.
The NOSC may request additional information or supporting documentation where necessary.
All information must be current, complete and accurate.
Prepare complete information and supporting evidence concerning the film’s qualifying theatrical release.
This includes:
name of the qualifying cinema;
full cinema address;
country of qualifying theatrical release;
opening date;
dates of the qualifying theatrical run;
screening schedule;
ticketing information, where available;
cinema or exhibitor contact information; and
published advertisements verifying the required seven-day theatrical run.
The NOSC may also request supporting evidence such as:
published cinema listings;
newspaper advertisements;
dated promotional materials;
official cinema schedules;
ticketing records;
exhibitor confirmation; or
other verifiable evidence.
The qualifying theatrical release must comply with Rule Sixteen for the 99th Academy Awards®.
Provide complete details of the film’s public exhibition and distribution history.
This includes, where applicable:
theatrical exhibitions;
film festival screenings;
television broadcast;
cable television;
pay-per-view;
video on demand;
streaming;
DVD or other physical distribution;
in-flight airline exhibition; and
internet transmission.
Do not omit previous public exhibition or distribution information.
All information must be fully disclosed.
Provide a secure and password-protected link to the complete final film.
The link must:
contain the complete final version of the film;
remain active throughout the NOSC review and selection period;
contain no trailers or other extraneous material; and
include burned-in, accurate and legible English-language subtitles.
Before submitting:
test the link;
test the password;
confirm that the complete film plays correctly; and
confirm that the subtitles are accurate and legible.
The submitter is responsible for ensuring that the link and password remain valid throughout the NOSC review and selection period.
Prepare all supporting materials required by the NOSC.
These include:
complete cast and crew credits in English;
director’s biography in English;
director’s photograph in the required dimensions;
proof and advertising of the qualifying theatrical release; and
any other information or documentation specified in the current Submission Requirements.
The NOSC requires submitting filmmakers to confirm that the materials necessary for the Academy submission stage can be prepared and delivered promptly if the film is selected to represent Nigeria.
You should be prepared to provide:
an Academy-compliant digital streaming asset;
an English closed-caption file;
compliant streaming display artwork; and
any other materials required for the selected film under the current Academy submission requirements.
Preparing for Academy readiness does not mean that your film has been selected by the NOSC or submitted directly to the Academy.
It means that your production is prepared to proceed promptly if selected.
Complete every required section of the official NOSC submission form.
Before submitting:
review every answer;
confirm that all names and credits are accurate;
check all dates carefully;
confirm that all links work;
test the film password;
confirm that all uploaded files open correctly; and
complete all required declarations.
The authorised submitter must confirm that:
they are authorised to submit the film;
all information provided is current, complete and accurate;
the submitted film and materials are authentic;
the NOSC may verify the information provided;
the NOSC may request additional information or documentation; and
if selected, the filmmakers will cooperate fully and promptly with the NOSC.
False, misleading or materially inaccurate information may affect eligibility.
The complete submission must be received before the deadline announced by the NOSC.
The Academy deadline for International Feature Film submissions for the 99th Academy Awards® is:
This is the Academy’s deadline.
It is not the deadline for filmmakers to submit films to the NOSC.
The NOSC sets an earlier national submission deadline to allow sufficient time for:
eligibility and completeness review;
verification of information and materials;
clarification of outstanding issues;
viewing and evaluation;
voting;
selection of Nigeria’s official submission; and
completion of the selected film’s Academy submission.
Late submissions may not be considered.
After submission, the NOSC may contact the authorised submitter to request:
clarification;
missing information;
corrected information;
supporting documentation;
replacement files;
updated links;
eligibility information; or
technical materials.
Respond promptly.
Failure to provide requested information or materials within the required time may affect the NOSC’s ability to complete its review of the film.
Submitted films will proceed through the applicable NOSC process.
This may include:
eligibility and completeness review;
viewing of eligible films;
evaluation;
Committee discussion;
conflict-of-interest and recusal procedures;
open ballot;
verification of the result; and
official announcement.
Submission of a film does not guarantee:
eligibility;
advancement through the selection process;
selection by the NOSC; or
submission to the Academy.
If your film is selected to represent Nigeria, the producer and authorised representatives must cooperate fully and promptly with the NOSC to complete the Academy submission process.
The selected film must be prepared to:
complete the required online submission process;
provide the required digital film asset;
provide the secure and password-protected film link required for testing non-English dialogue;
provide the full cast and credits list;
provide the director’s biography and photograph;
provide the designated key frame for streaming display artwork;
provide proof of the qualifying theatrical release, including advertising;
respond to requests for clarification or corrections; and
complete all other applicable requirements within the required deadlines.
The NOSC administers Nigeria’s official national selection process.
Submitting your film to the NOSC means that you are asking for the film to be considered for selection as Nigeria’s official submission through the country or region selection pathway.
Only one film may be selected as Nigeria’s official submission through this pathway.
Only the film selected through Nigeria’s official national selection process may proceed through the NOSC as Nigeria’s official submission to the Academy.
Selection by the NOSC does not mean that the film has been nominated for an Academy Award®.
Confirm that:

□ Your creative-control information is complete
□ Your citizenship, residency and affiliation information is complete, where required
□ Your complete cast and crew credits are accurate

□ Your theatrical-release evidence and advertising are ready
□ You have disclosed the film’s complete release and distribution history
□ Your secure viewing link works
□ Your password works
□ Your viewing copy contains the complete final film
□ Your viewing copy includes burned-in, accurate and legible English-language subtitles
□ Your director’s biography is ready
□ Your director’s photograph meets the required dimensions
□ You have confirmed your Academy readiness
□ All required declarations are complete
□ You have reviewed all information for accuracy
□ You are submitting before the NOSC deadline
